I come to you with a book I am very excited about.  The Last Little Blue Envelope holds a near and dear place in my heart because 13 Little Blue Envelopes was the first book I read by Maureen Johnson.  I haven’t read 13LBE in almost two years, but from what I remember, the book leaves us off at the point in which Ginny returns home after getting her backpack stolen.  The backpack with the 13 envelopes (from her recently deceased Aunt Peg).  The book left readers wondering what happened to that last envelope as well as Ginny’s life after her massive adventure through Europe.

Last Little Blue Envelope starts off with Ginny stressing out about college until she gets a mysterious email from someone who claims they have the last blue envelope.  Ginny returns to England to meet the mysterious Oliver, and ventures off into the depths of Europe once again to follow the tasks laid out in the 13th letter.  Oh, and we must not forget, there is a lot of tension between Keith and Ginny.

Anna is this film critic blogger from Atlanta who gets sent to a boarding school in Paris, France because her dad wants her to see some refined culture.  He sends her to this school full of American kids.  She means this group of friends who change her mind about the whole situation.  Especially St Clair.I liked the characters in this novel.  

I liked the main character, Anna.  She’s quite smart.  She does have her idiotic times, which brings the novel down a bit.  She explains things and then says “I don’t know why.”  YES YOU DO.  You just explained it!  Other than that, she kind of reminds me of myself (eating vending machine food her first week of school).  

St Clair is someone I’d like to be friends with.  He’s French, American, and English (he has an English accent).  I do wish the author would make up her mind about whether she wanted him to say “my mum” or “me mum”.  The latter makes him sound like a pirate.  I liked Mer and Rashmi.  I thought they were awesome characters.  I wish we could have seen more of them!

Oh, and Sean, Anna’s little brother… Who let him watch Phantom Menace?  For a film critic, Anna should know to let him watch the better trilogy (IV, V, VI).  Sorry, geeked out there for a bit. Ahem.  I did like that she made Anna’s dad Nicholas Sparks.  I think she had a lot of fun poking at that.  It was a good addition to the novel.

The storyline is quite interesting.  It’s very relationship-driven and there’s some drama, but it isn’t over-the-top.  It’s a good read.  It’s a good book and well worth the read.  There will be small details that make you wonder if the author has ever met an English person, but if you can get past that, it’s a good book.  I can’t wait for her next novel!
